TEACHING & LEARNING

Dr. Julie Riley has served as the assistant superintendent of Andover Public Schools since August 2021. She brings more than 27 years of experience in Massachusetts school leadership, with a strong record of advancing curriculum design, instructional innovation, and college and career readiness.
Before joining Andover, Dr. Riley was the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Instructional Technology for the Manchester Essex Regional School District (MERSD). In that role, she led districtwide efforts to strengthen instructional systems and structures, oversaw educational programming, and guided strategic planning to support rigorous, engaging learning experiences for all students.
Throughout her career, Dr. Riley has championed PK–12 research‑ and evidence‑based curriculum development, multi‑tiered systems of support, and project‑ and experiential‑based learning. She has also expanded opportunities for high school students through early college, dual enrollment, and vocational pathways.
In addition to her role as assistant superintendent, Dr. Riley co‑leads the Curriculum and Staff Development Network (CSDN), an educational leadership network for district and school leaders. CSDN brings together leaders across Massachusetts to collaborate, learn, and strengthen instructional and organizational leadership. Each year, the network offers high‑quality professional learning experiences, including workshops with DESE, MASS Literacy, NEASC, and leading researchers in adolescent development and educational change. With monthly virtual meetings and an expanding set of professional development offerings, CSDN supports leaders in navigating the evolving demands of school and district improvement while fostering a strong, connected professional community.
Dr. Riley holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Northeastern University, a Master of Science in Reading and Literacy from Boston University, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from American International College.
