Elementary Literacy PreK-5

In the Andover Public Schools, we cultivate a vibrant, inclusive literacy community where all students engage with diverse texts that spark interest and support their learning. We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment where all students see themselves as skilled readers, writers, and critical thinkers.

Our educators, equipped with evidence-based strategies, build skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking. These serve as the foundation for interpreting complex texts, with writing playing a key role in deepening understanding and expressing critical thought.

Students engage in responsive, text-driven instruction that values their diverse backgrounds and differentiated needs. They participate in meaningful, text-driven discourse that builds on each other's thinking and experiences, promoting deep collaboration and critical engagement. Through visible thinking, positive feedback, and critical questioning, we create a space where risk-taking is celebrated and all students can grow in their literacy skills.

We strengthen partnerships between home and school, ensuring families are informed and involved in their child's education. Educators collaborate across departments to meet each student's needs, reinforcing the belief that all students can achieve literacy success.
