As fall settles in, so does the season for flu and other respiratory illnesses. To help keep our school community healthy, please review the following reminders:
When to keep your child home:
• Fever
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Contagious diseases — please call the clinic to discuss with the nurses if you have any questions
When your child may return to school:
• Fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication
• Vomiting or diarrhea-free for 24 hours
• For contagious infections requiring medication, please contact the nurse to create a safe return plan
• Head Lice — the nurse must check your child’s head before returning to school
Although we are not currently seeing many cases of head lice, we often notice an increase after school vacations. Please continue to perform monthly head checks at home and reach out to the clinic with any concerns.
A reminder for third-grade families:
The Town of Andover and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts require all third-grade students to have a current physical exam and up-to-date immunization record on file. Please send copies to the West Elementary Clinic by:
Physicals completed on or after April 1, 2025 meet the requirement. If your child’s appointment is scheduled for a later date, please forward documentation once it is complete.
We appreciate your cooperation and your partnership in keeping our students healthy and ready to learn!
Warm regards,
The West Elementary Clinic Team
