Students Walking

Dear Wood Hill Middle School Families:

We are thrilled to welcome you back to an exciting new school year at Wood Hill Middle School! We hope you've had a wonderful summer filled with relaxation and fun. As we gear up for the year ahead, we're embracing a theme that truly resonates with the middle school journey: "Take the Road Less Traveled."

Middle school is a unique time of immense growth and change, where finding your own voice and staying true to yourself can sometimes feel challenging. Our theme is all about encouraging students to become comfortable in their own skin, to explore their interests, and to confidently choose their own path rather than simply following the crowd. We believe that by fostering individuality and self-acceptance, we empower our students to thrive both academically and personally.

We're incredibly excited to introduce two new initiatives designed to further support our students in navigating these pivotal years:

Advisory Program

This year, we're launching our new Advisory program, which will meet once a week. This dedicated time ensures that every student has at least one trusted adult to connect with on a regular basis. Beyond building strong relationships, the Advisory program will provide a safe space for students to learn essential healthy skills for navigating the adolescent years and addressing topics relevant to their social-emotional development.

W.I.N. (What I Need) Block

We're also implementing a weekly W.I.N. Block, designed to offer more individualized support and opportunities for every student. During W.I.N. block, students will have the chance to receive targeted academic support in areas where they might be struggling, as well as engage in enriching activities that extend their learning. This initiative allows for more personalized attention, ensuring that all learners receive the focused instruction they need and all students are challenged with exciting extensions. Our goal is to enhance overall student growth, engagement, and a love for learning.

These new programs, along with our dedicated staff and supportive community, are all designed to help your child embrace their unique journey and truly "Take the Road Less Traveled." We are confident that these additions will significantly contribute to a positive and enriching experience for all Wood Hill Middle School students.

Additional Chromebook Information from the Technology Department:

There are only a few weeks left before the current school year starts!  We would like to provide some  information about your child’s technology needs as they begin middle school.

In grades 6-8, all students are required to use a Chromebook.  Families that choose to purchase a device may select any manufacturer and style of device. We recommend considering ruggedized devices that can stand up to adolescent use, as well as devices with:

·                6-8 hours of battery life

·                4 GB [Minimum] - 8GB [Higher Performance] RAM

·                 Built-in camera and speakers.

·                An 11-15" Screen

Focus on these core items over processors, hard drive capacity, or other capabilities. For example, our current standard model for Chromebooks is linked here:

You do not need to purchase this exact device.

In middle school, all  Chromebook devices must be managed by the Andover IT department.   A managed device provides a consistent experience for all students during the school day, and offers the following benefits:

·                A safer browsing experience during school hours.

·                Access to Andover’s Wireless Networks and all required instructional materials.

·                During school hours, students are only able to run district-approved applications.

Please enroll your child’s device prior to the first day of school - see below for instructions and additional information:

Chromebook Enrollment Instructions

Help will be available at your child’s school during their first week for those that have difficulty placing their device under management.

Rental Program: The Window for Renting a Computer is Closed.

If your child previously signed up for the Chromebook rental program, you may pick up your child’s device at their school office August 18th, 19th or 20th from 8:AM-30 to 12PM . If you cannot make it during these times, your child can pick the device up on their first day of school.

Family Financial Assistance: Families with financial considerations who are unable to purchase a device can contact your school principal any time to discuss obtaining a loaner device.  Loaner devices will be available to eligible students starting the first week of school.  Please contact the Wood Hill main office with any questions about this program.

If you have any questions or need support with this process, please send an email to etech@andoverma.us
