Dear APS staff and families,

As many of you know, there was a medical emergency that occurred Tuesday afternoon at Field Pond. Emergency responders responded promptly and provided immediate care, and we extend our deep appreciation for their professionalism and rapid response.

I can confirm that the student involved is a member of the Doherty Middle School community. We are keeping the student and their family in our thoughts during this difficult time and extend our full support as they navigate the situation.

We know that some students and members of our community may have witnessed or heard about what occurred. Events like this can be upsetting and may bring a range of emotions, concerns, and questions for students, staff, and families across our district.

I recognize that a situation like this can have a significant impact on our school community and understand that there may be speculation surrounding this matter.  To protect the privacy of the student and family, I am unable to verify or confirm specific details related to the incident or the student.

In response, our district’s crisis support team of school counselors, social workers, and other trained professionals are available across our schools to provide care, guidance, and support to any student or staff member who may need it. At Doherty Middle School, additional counselors and social workers are available in the main office for students who would like someone to talk to. We encourage families to check in with their children, as they may process events like this in different ways. If you feel your child may need additional support, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school principal directly.

As a community, we will continue to care for and support one another. Thank you for your compassion and understanding.
