Yes! All meals are free for STUDENTS ages 0-21 in the Town of Andover. This means children who are home schooled or in college can also pick up a meal.
A meal bag contains breakfast, lunch, and snack items for two days (three on the weekends). They contain a variety of sandwiches and hot meals, and milk is also provided when available. Our weekly menu is posted on our Facebook page “Andover School Nutrition” and sent through e-mail every week, so keep an eye out!
Beginning June 1st, 2020, Andover Food Services will consolidate food pick-up locations for families to one site- Andover High School. This will allow Andover School Nutrition staff to maintain a more efficient control of production and quality control over meals as the weather continues to get warmer. Pick up times will remain the same. Pick up will be every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, at Andover High School from 10:30 a.m.-12:30p.m. from June 1st -June 30th. There will be two lines for pick up at AHS running simultaneously. Both lines will be providing the same meals to facilitate faster pick up.
No. We did pre-order during the first week to get an idea of meal counts. Ordering in advance is no longer necessary.
We encourage you to pick up a meal and no, you are not taking services away from someone who needs. Picking up a meal helps our department (see next question). In addition, families have said it helps provide their children a sense of normalcy by having a school meal. Others appreciate the convenience and not having to go to the grocery store as often. We make enough meals for everyone so it will not take away from those in need.
Each meal we provide to a student allows us to receive reimbursement from the government. This reimbursement is currently our main source of income and is used to buy food and pay our staff. All staff are currently being paid, despite school closures. By getting a meal, you help support our department and employees and keep us operating! We also have been applying for grants, which help with equipment costs.
On average we are doing about 7,000 meals per week, counting breakfast and lunch. This number continues to grow!
We will be operating until June 30th. We will provide updates if we will continue to feed during the summer.
