Many of you may have already heard that we are now seeing cases patients of flu throughout the country and although we have not seen many cases locally we expect our staff and students to be affected by this in the near future.
It is therefore important to protect ourselves as much as possible and follow the recommendations of the Department of Public Health, which are :
• Vaccination – there is still time to get vaccinated.
• Everyday prevention: handwashing, cough etiquette, and staying home when sick.
• Treatment – antivirals like Tamiflu are most effective when started early after symptom onset.
A new CDC brochure titled “Take Three Actions to Fight the Flu” is available at http://www.cdc.gov/flu/pdf/freeresources/general/take3.pdf
Please review the flu symptom checklist attached and remember to contact your school nurse if your child will be out sick. Please provide as much information as possible regarding the reason for illness as this will assist us in tracking the severity of the situation.
If you have questions and concerns about influenza, you may contact the Massachusetts Department of Public Health at 617-983-6800
