Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Schoology?

A: Schoology is a learning management system (LMS), allowing students and teachers to interact and collaborate online. Schoology allows teachers to post assignments and other resources for their classes. Students can access Schoology from any computer or mobile device with Internet access.

Q: What is the difference between Schoology and Aspen?

A: Schoology is our learning management system, where teachers can post course content, assignments, and provide resources for students. Aspen is our student records system, where official grades, report cards, class schedules, and attendance is recorded.

Q. How do I log into Schoology?

A: Schoology and Aspen use the same username and password. When your child started APS you should have received an automated email with your username and directions on how to log into your account for the first time. Search your email inbox and junk mail for “Aspen”.

-The usernames start with “fam” for family.

-The username is case sensitive and all lower case. Sometimes if you're on a mobile device it will automatically capitalize the first letter and you must change it back to lowercase.

If you need a password reset, please visit:

Q: Can I use Schoology on a mobile device or tablet?

A: Apps are available for both iOS and Android devices. Follow the steps below to log into the mobile app.

      1. From the App home page, select “Sign in through my school”.

      2. In the School field, search for “Andover Public School District”. Then select “Go to SSO”.

      3. You will the see the APS Schoology login page.

      4. Select the “Parent/Guardian Login” button. Your Login ID and Password is the same information you use to log in to                                Aspen/Follett.

Q: I have multiple children in the District. Can I view all of my children under my Schoology account?

A: Yes, you should be able to view all of your children who are currently attending APS in your account. If you find you cannot see your child(ren) please contact your child’s school.

Q: What can parents see in Schoology?

A: Parents can view courses, assignment descriptions, calendars, upcoming events for all of their students. Parents cannot view submitted assignments, comments from other children in the class, or feedback provided by teachers.

Q: Why can't I see my student's submitted work in Schoology?

A: Schoology is intended as a collaboration tool for students and teachers. Parents are able to monitor course content, but not review a student's submitted work. The best way to get this type of information is to consult with your child or his/her teacher.

Q I’m trying to view my child’s assignment in Schoology, but I’m getting an “access” error message.

A: In the parent view you will be able to view the description of an assignment, but you may not be able to view details or attachments that the teacher has linked due to the permissions of the original document. For example, if the teacher has created an assignment using Google, the document would only be shared between the students and the teacher. The best way to get this type of detailed information would be to have your child log into their account.

Q: How do I set up email notifications in Schoology?

A: Within Schoology you can update your settings to receive emails about your child’s Schoology activity and grades. Please visit the link below for detailed instructions.

         Parent Notification Instructions

Q: How does the calendar feature work?

A: Selecting the "Calendar" tab from the Schoology homepage shows an aggregation of all assignments for your student. Clicking the "Calendar" tab from within a course shows assignments from only that course.

Q: Why can't I see my child's attendance and final grades in Schoology?

A: Schoology is not a replacement for Aspen.  Aspen is our official student records system and that is where you can find data including your student's attendance, final grades, report cards and class schedules.
