About Our School

Shawsheen School is an optional enrollment school. Any Pre-2 Andover child may attend. The Preschool has screening for the peer students. The integrated program weaves the Andover curriculum in all subject areas into themes which promote student interest and understanding of the subject matter. The goals and objectives of the Andover Public Schools’ curriculum are followed, therefore allowing for smooth transitions between schools. Transportation to and from the Shawsheen School, including midday busing, is free of charge.

What makes Shawsheen the school it is?

The focus of Shawsheen School is on the primary developmental needs of 3-8 year olds.

* Shawsheen’s size, approximately 280 children, fosters growth in an intimate school community.

* Parents volunteer regularly in Shawsheen’s classrooms and make the publishing of students’ books possible.

* All teachers use an interdisciplinary thematic approach with emphasis on literature-based materials through which language arts skills, science, mathematics and social studies are made meaningful.

* All specialists in music, physical education and art coordinate their programs with grade level and school-wide themes.

* Teachers meet by grade level each week to plan activities, learning centers and projects that integrate science, math, language arts and social studies into grade level themes.

* The overarching theme is The Golden Rule. All work hard to be respectful, responsible role models.
