Jump Rope for Heart

April Feeney

On February 11th, 2010 High Plain Elementary held the Jump Rope for Heart for all students in grades 3-5 who wanted to participate in jumping all over heart disease! The event was held at 7:30am so that it would not interfere during school time and so that more students could participate.  It was a great success! Beth Shiff, who has been participating in this event for the past seven years at High Plain, said that last year they raised around $2,000, and this year we made it past $3,000! This was the first year for Jess Pennell and she was excited at how much they raised and how many students showed for such a great cause.

The Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH) is held all over the country bringing together students and teachers to learn how to raise money for such a great cause as well as teach students about how important it is to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. The JRFH is teaching children as well as adults about cardiovascular diseases and strokes.

JRFH is a national organization that is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD).  For more information about JRFH please visit: Jump Rope for Heart or the American Heart Association website.

Thank you all for your efforts at making this event such a success and also fun for the kids!
