The Andover Public Schools have a relatively low incidence of students who are English Language Learners (ELL). However, these students represent a broad spectrum of linguistic and cultural diversity. Wherever those students are on the continuum of English language development, Andover welcomes these students and appreciates the cultural richness that they bring to our school community.
The ELL program in Andover follows a sheltered English immersion model. Language support is provided both in the mainstream classrooms as well as in small group and individual tutorial sessions. The program's goals are to develop for these students communication competencies and academic achievement in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking in English so that they may access the full breadth and depth of the curriculum and become active, involved members in the activities of their schoolhouse.
