What is it like to live in another country? You're the new Ambassador !

Introduction:

This WebQuest is designed to work with the Massachusetts State Frameworks for 6th grade History and Social Science. It is important to learn about geography and world culture so that we may better enrich our own. You will be assigned a partner and a country.

As Ambassadors to your country, each pair will be responsible for researching that country and preparing a travel brochure listing its highlights. You will work together to gather information notes and to put together your brochure in any design you like. The countries will be assigned from one of the following continents:
Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, North and East Asia, South America, or Europe.

You will have two weeks to complete this assignment. This means you will have 6 library periods in which to work.
You are encouraged to meet outside of class as well, if necessary.

Task:

You and your partner are Ambassadors to your new country. You will both become experts in one country and try to encourage as many people as you can to visit that country. In order to get people to see how wonderful it is, you must know a great deal about the country so that you can interest potential travelers. Once you have gathered as much knowledge as you can about your country, you must put together a brochure so that you may share your knowledge with people who may want to visit your country.

* You will work together with a partner to gather your information. You may take notes on note cards, with one fact per note card. You will be handing in these notecards periodically to make sure you are on track. Once you have found all your information, you may then start your brochure.

* Your brochure will contain the basic information listed under "Process" below. See the Rubric for grading on the assignment. These grades will be shared with your Social Studies and Language Arts teachers.

* You may put together your brochure any way you wish, using the computer or by hand, and you may make it any size you wish. If you would prefer to use a three-sided poster board as your "brochure", you may.

Process:

You must make a brochure that you can hand out to visitors of your country. The brochure must include the information listed above. Also, be sure to include a price quote for airline tickets on two different airlines and hotel prices from two different hotels.

Conclusion:

Congratulations! You should now have all the information you need to become the Ambassador of your country. Your brochures will be displayed throughout the library so that the students and teachers of Wood Hill Middle School may see what it is like to live in your country. You now have a better understanding of another culture- one outside of Andover, outside of Massachusetts, and even outside of the United States.
