Wild Cats

Web Sites for Second Graders

Animal Photo Library – http://photo2.si.edu/

From the National Zoo and the Smithsonian Institute, this site provides printable and clickable pictures of animals.

Cats! Wild to Mild – http://www.lam.mus.ca.us/cats/

From the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, this exhibition traces the natural history of the cat.  You’ll find information about many wild cats including jaguars, lions, tigers, leopards, bobcats, cheetahs and other wild cats.  Select Cats A to Z and then Cats by Habitat and choose the cat that interests you!

Oakland Zoo – http://www.oaklandzoo.org/zoo/discover.html

The Oakland Zoo is home to over 300 animals.  The collection is organized in biomes, geographic regions that represent the ecosystem of that area.  Visit your wild cat by choosing them from the alphabetical list.  After you have your information, stay on and do some “cool stuff”.

Sierra Safari Zoo – http://www.sierrasafarizoo.com/animals.htm

This is the largest zoo in Nevada .  You will find information and pictures of the large and small wild cats that live at this zoo which include ligers, tigers, lions, cougars, bobcats and servals.

One more site to mention, but this site is having financial difficulties and is asking for donations for downloading their great coloring sheets.  Use this site at your discretion.

Enchanted Learning – http://www.enchantedlearning.com/coloring/cats.shtml

Information about and coloring pictures of many different breeds of wild cats.

You can find this page on the Bancroft School Web Site ( www.aps1.net/ban/librarynews.htm ) under the Media Center links for Grade 2.
