This section is an overview of the requirements needed to represent Andover High School in interscholastic contests.  A student must get passing grades in the equivalent of four major subjects for the term prior to the season. The student must also take four credits equivalent to four 1-year major English courses. To be eligible during the fall marking period a student must have passed the equivalent of four 1-year English courses the previous year. A student whose 19th birthday falls before September 1 will be ineligible to participate in athletics. Students using or  consuming alcohol, any tobacco products, marijuana, steroids or any controlled substance will be penalized by not being allowed to compete. Students involved in sports will get detailed information from their coaches at the start of each season. A student who is absent or suspended from school is not permitted to practice or to participate in interscholastic athletics.

Fall Sports Pre-Season Schedule

 

Preseason practice and try-out sessions will begin the week of August 18 All student-athletes are required to have a current (within the last 13 months) physical exam on file with the athletic department before participating in these sessions.  Physicals may be mailed to the athletic office at Andover High School, Shawsheen Road, Andover, MA 01810.  If you have any questions please contact the athletic office at (978)623-8670. The schedule is as follows:

 Boys & Girls Cross Country:  all candidates are to meet in the field house parking lot on Thursday, August 21 and Friday, August 22, at 8:30 AM, ready to run.

 Field Hockey:  all candidates, grades 9-12, are to meet on the field hockey field behind the field house on Thursday, August 21 and Friday, August 22.  The morning session will run from 8:00 to 11:00 AM and the afternoon session will run from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.  The session on Saturday, August 23 will run from 8:00 to 11:00 AM.

 Football:  equipment will be issued on Sunday, August 17.  Seniors should report to the equipment room at 4:00 PM, juniors at 4:45 PM, sophomores at 5:30 PM, freshmen at 6:15 PM. Conditioning sessions will be held on August 18, 19, and 20 from 9:00 AM to noon at the high school for students in grades 10, 11, 12.  Freshmen conditioning and practice will begin on August 18 at 2:00 PM and will run from 7:30 to 10:00 AM the rest of the week. Upperclassmen will leave for camp on August 21.  Freshmen will continue to practice at the high school.

 Golf:  all candidates will meet for tryouts on Thursday, August 21 at 7:00 AM at Merrimack Golf Course in Methuen and on Friday, August 22 at 11:00 AM at Trull Brook CC in Tewksbury.  All candidates, including past varsity members, should report for tryouts.  There will be a cost for each participant.  Student-athletes who make the team will be expected to participate in practices starting on August 25.

 Boys Soccer:  all candidates are to meet on Thursday, August 21 at the Wood Hill Middle School.  The sessions will run from 8:30 to 11:30 AM and again from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.  Freshmen may come at this time if they wish to try-out for the varsity or junior varsity teams.  Try-outs for the freshmen team will begin after school on September 4.

 Girls Soccer:  candidates are to meet at West Middle School on Thursday, August 21.  The morning session will run from 8:00 to 11:00 AM and the afternoon session will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.  Freshmen may come at this time if they wish to try out for the varsity or junior varsity teams.  Try-outs for the freshmen team will begin on Tuesday, August 26 at 8:00 AM at West Middle..

 Girls Swimming & Diving:  candidates will meet at the Greater Lawrence Tech swimming pool on Thursday, August 21 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Friday from noon to 4:00 PM and Saturday from 7:00 to 11:00 AM.  Candidates must bring swimsuits, goggles, cap (not lycra), water bottle, workout clothes for dry land training, running shoes and a great attitude!

 Girls Volleyball:  all candidates are to report to the high school gym on Saturday, August 23, the morning session will run from 8:30 to 11:30 AM, the afternoon session from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. There will be a session on Sunday, August 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The scheduled for the week of August 25 will be given out on August 23.
